Basketball News
Last week's basketball action saw the Junior High take on Morton.  The 7th and 8th grade boys combined a team because Morton only had one boys team.  The 7th and 8th grade girls walked away victorious!  On Tuesday the high school teams traveled to Plains.  The JV Boys, Lady Cats, and Bobcats all walked away with victories.  Sundown came to town on Friday.  Both varsity teams teams proved their stuff with victories as did the JV Boys.  Next up will be the JH in Seagraves on Monday, the high school teams in Tahoka on Tuesday, and Morton comes to Smyer on Friday.  Let's go Bobcats and Lady Cats!

New TEA Ratings Out - Smyer ISD Recognized
The Texas Education Agency has released their annual list of School Accountability ratings for the 2010-2011 school year.  Texas annually rates its public schools and districts on the academic performance of its students through the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) tests.  Smyer ISD is proud to announce that once again, the district has achieved a Recognized rating.  Congratulations to our students and teachers, and the hard work they put in to achieve this accountability rating.

Texas is in the transition from the TAKS test, to the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) test.  Students who are in the 9th grade and below in the 2011-12 school year will be tested with this new system.  Students who are in the 10th-12th grades this year will continue with the TAKS tests.  The STAAR test is said to be a more rigorous testing system that will challenge our students in ways that the TAKS test did not.  The teachers and administrators of Smyer ISD would ask for the help of parents and guardians of our students in encouraging all students to work hard this year and do as well on the STAAR tests as they have on the TAKS tests.
